SEO and GEO for Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Brands in Egypt and the Gulf

Pharmaceutical SEO services for YMYL content held to an evidence standard, usually in two languages, always under regulatory review. Twenty-one of my seventy-two engagements since 2012 have been in this sector — it is the largest share of the roster and the most demanding.

The Problem

Why Pharma Sites Underperform Even When the Content is Good

Pharmaceutical marketing teams rarely have a writing problem. The content is usually accurate, sourced and reviewed — it has been through more scrutiny than almost any other category on the web. It still does not rank, and it almost never gets quoted by an answer engine.

Four reasons, in the order I usually find them:

  • The review cycle shapes the structure. Approved copy tends to open with context and qualification and arrive at the answer late, because that is the safe order for a reviewer. It is also the order that makes a passage unquotable.
  • The Arabic version was translated, not researched. So it targets phrasings that are correct Arabic and that nobody searches, while the questions patients and prescribers actually type go unanswered.
  • Corporate sites are architecturally conservative. Heavy frameworks, gated sections, brand microsites on separate domains, and a rendering setup that means retrieval sees very little of it.
  • Nobody owns the entity. The company name, the brand name and the local subsidiary appear differently across the global site, the local site, LinkedIn and directories, so a model cannot resolve who is making the claim.

None of those is fixed by publishing more articles, which is usually what gets proposed.

The Difference

What Changes for Pharmaceutical SEO Services When Content is Regulated

Everything in technical SEO and GEO still applies. What changes is the process around it, and pretending otherwise is how agencies lose pharma accounts in month three.

  • Claims cannot be rewritten for clarity. They can be restructured and repositioned on the page, but the wording that was approved stays approved. The craft is in the architecture around the claim, not the claim.
  • The reviewer belongs in the room early. A restructuring plan signed off in principle before the work starts saves a quarter of rework. Bringing med-legal in at the end is the single most expensive mistake in this sector.
  • Prescription-medicine promotion to the public is restricted across Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, which shapes what a brand site can target at all. Disease-awareness and health-education content is usually where the searchable demand actually sits.
  • E-E-A-T is not a checklist here. Author identity, credentials, citation of primary sources and review dates carry real weight for YMYL queries, and most local pharma sites publish anonymously.
  • Two markets, not one Arabic audience. Egyptian and Saudi patients search differently, and the regulatory and product picture differs too.

What I Do

What My Pharmaceutical SEO Services Fix, in This Order

Foundation Audit

Crawl, render and index diagnostics on the corporate site and any brand microsites, including whether AI crawlers can reach them at all. Brand microsites on separate domains are where I find the worst damage.

You get: an indexation and rendering report per property, with the fixes ranked

Bilingual Intent Research

What patients, carers and healthcare professionals actually search, per market, in Arabic and English — researched rather than translated, and separated by Egypt and the Gulf.

You get: a per-market, per-language demand map tied to the pages that should own each question

Restructuring within Approved Copy

Reordering so the approved answer is self-contained and early, with the regulatory context adjacent rather than woven through the sentence. Designed to pass review, not to dodge it.

You get: restructured pages or briefs, annotated so a reviewer can see what did and did not change

Entity and Authorship

Organization and Person schema, named medical reviewers with credentials and review dates, and consistent facts across the global site, the local site and off-site profiles.

You get: a schema spec and an entity consistency checklist across every surface

How It Runs

The Four Stages of a Pharmaceutical SEO Engagement

01  ·  Week 1–2

Audit and Alignment

Technical baseline, plus a conversation with whoever owns med-legal review about what is and is not changeable.

02  ·  Week 2–3

Plan, Pre-Approved

The restructuring approach agreed in principle before any page is touched. This is the step that saves the quarter.

03  ·  Ongoing

Execute

Page by page, through your normal review cycle. I write to the constraint rather than asking for exceptions.

04  ·  Monthly

Measure

Rankings, and separately whether the approved answer is now being cited by AI engines for the questions that matter.

Markets

Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are Three Pharmaceutical Markets

Different regulators, different registration pictures, different search behaviour. A single Arabic page serving all three is the most common structural mistake I see, and it underperforms in all three.

Egypt — the largest Arabic-language search volume in the region and the most competitive Arabic health content. Dialectal queries dominate patient-facing search; the Egyptian Drug Authority governs what can be promoted.

Saudi Arabia — higher commercial value per query, thinner Arabic content competition, and a different dialect in patient-facing search. The SFDA governs registration and promotion.

UAE — a far higher share of English-language search than either, a large expatriate audience, and health authorities at both federal and emirate level. Often the market where an English-first strategy is genuinely correct.

I work on the search side of this, not the regulatory side. Your regulatory affairs team owns what may be said; I own whether the approved version can be found and quoted.

Questions

Pharmaceutical SEO Questions Clients Ask

How do you work inside a med-legal or regulatory review cycle?

By agreeing the approach before touching a page, and by restructuring rather than rewriting. Approved claim wording stays as approved; what changes is where it sits on the page and what surrounds it. Briefs are annotated so a reviewer can see exactly what changed and what did not, which turns a re-review into a scan rather than a fresh approval.

Do you work with EDA, SFDA or UAE-regulated content?

I work on content that is subject to those regimes, alongside the client’s regulatory affairs team. I am an SEO and GEO consultant, not a regulatory consultant — your RA function decides what may be said, and I make sure the approved version is findable and quotable.

Can you handle YMYL E-E-A-T requirements?

Yes, and for health content it is one of the highest-leverage areas: named authors and medical reviewers with real credentials, primary-source citation, visible review dates, and an organisation entity that resolves consistently. Most local pharma sites publish anonymously, which is a large and fixable disadvantage.

Do you write Arabic patient-facing content?

I research the demand per market and either write or brief and review. For regulated claims I prefer to brief, because the text has to go through your review anyway and a brief that respects the constraint moves faster than a draft that ignores it.

Can you work on HCP portals and gated content?

Yes. Gated HCP sections need deliberate decisions about what is indexable, what sits behind the gate, and how the public-facing layer supports the gated one without leaking restricted content. Getting this wrong in either direction is common.

We cannot promote prescription products to the public. What is there to optimise?

Usually more than the team expects. Disease awareness, symptom and condition education, diagnostic pathways, patient support and HCP resources are where the searchable demand sits, and they are also what answer engines are being asked about. The brand benefits from owning the question without promoting the product.

Will you name us as a client?

Only with written permission. The names on this page are clients whose work is already public or who agreed to be listed; everyone else is described by category.
